Spring-trip plow - latch spring improvement

Recommended Posts

I've noticed the spring keeps sliding down towards the bottom of the latch, where it has minimal leverage to hold the latch tight in one of the slots.

So I was thinking of cutting a groove across the back side of the latch, horizontally, near the top to keep the spring near the top.

Anyone else done this? The linkage works ok I am just trying to smooth it out a little.

My internal spring slid down too, the groove is a good idea. I added an external spring and it pops the latch in place nice & tight every time...sm01

PS...on my other plow I didn't need one, works fine??
