I'm getting started on my B12 restoration. I got this last summer and have been using it around the property. It's actually my best running Briggs engine. So no engine overhaul but the tractor needs the works...

Below is a few of the problems;1st the PO hacked a hole in the dash and a patch was made later...I bought a dash from E-Bay to replace it with

DSCI4211.JPG

I was glad to see a tiller drive with the tractor...but it's rusted/seized on. B)

DSCI4212.JPG

Part of the PTO is broken off. a pulley guard I think??

DSCI4216.JPG

Have any of you guys seen one of these before? It looks like a truckers cargo door seal. But it says "Yunker Impl co G&L..." as seen by the decal Yunker Impliment co was the dealer that sold/delivered the tractor new. I've never seen this before??

Also last summer I found this...a donor B12, I got it mainly for the seat frame and grill but after scrubbing it I was amazed how good the frame condition was. I think I will use the best parts of both machines...

Another question...Is this a switch for the headlights? On the project B12 both lights have toggles on them & no dash switch, so I thought they didnt use a dash switch like the later models.

Ya caught me off guard with the pork chop pics...the cat looks like he also has a little interest in the chops. Nice pics with some excellent projects ahead of you. Can't wait to see the results. Best of luck.

Greg, looks like you are off to a nice start and thanks for the pictures. I have seen the metal dealer band on tractors I bought in the past.

I don't know where you get your ambition, Greg. I did my 2 tractors this summer and, frankly, I'm out of steam for a while. You, however, seem to just keep rolling along with one major project after another. Your work ethic is most impressive.

id="quote">But my tractor storage space isn't...:D Thanks Chris... I actually enjoy it. For me, this is how I kick back and spend my free time...as you know it's rewarding to finish a big project and make somthing longlasting out of a machine that was destin for the scrapyard. Have you seen the switch I showed. Did your FDT's have a dash switch or toggles on the lights?

The B 12 should have a knock out in the dash for a light switch. My B 10 late model did when I had that tractor and so did my B 12 or atleast I believe it did. I know for sure my Landlord 990314 didn`t. The switches were on the lights.

Another great show under way.... co-starring the "blue guy". Ya know, it's getting so that some of my fav pix are the one's with the blue hand in them. :D

On a slightly more serious note, there's some kinda magic with the light, or the camera, or maybe it's just what you do - but the pix are almost all the same. There's a quality to the illustration that's just always there; and you own it. So do your thing like you do; some people take pix, other people illustrate and educate. Since I am generally illiterate on B-series traxtors, I volunteer as the willing subject following the guiding light. or....

Call it what you like - just lead on, and have fun.

I'm stocking up on popcorn and beer for this ride. I usually spend some 5 mins on each pix; and that on the second time through; then I scan back and forth. The whole thing becomes like a movie. I know this sounds like excessive exaggeration - I'm just telling you what it's like, for me, when I watch your projects. Hence the popcorn and beer - for endurance, of course. 8)

And I can tell - that cat has been rewarded before. :o

Greg:

Click on the Simpletractors link above, then operation, then front light kit. Kent explains how the lights came. For your B12, I believe the optional light kit should have come with a toggle switch that went into a knockout on the dash as Ray described.

Thanks Chris I had not seen that before...My "donor" must have had that system since it has a dash switch, but the B12 "project" had the earlier system Ray mentioned since it had toggles on each light and no dash switch... Very interesting...Thanks for the help guys sm01

Thanks Matthew, Ray said he's seen them too...I wonder if the numbers following the name were the date of sale?? it has "2166" Maybe Feb 1st 1966?? I like that tag, I may return it to the tractor when done sm01

The tag is an inventory tag from the dealer.I have seen them before.Nice start on your tractordOddOd

Looking good, Greg. Having some good air tools really make tearing one down so much faster and easier, doesn't it? I love my air ratchets and impacts.

You're scaring me hooking your strap around the muffler pipe like that! I've got a 10hp engine sitting in my garage that came out of my loader tractor. The PO broke the muffler pipe off in the block. It ain't exactly easy getting that out of there.

Looks so familiar, but you have far more ambition than I. I'm enjoying the show though! Do you have someone who prowls around your shop, throwing things out? I noticed you have 'Save' on your tub of steel uner the table there. I need one just like it that says 'Throw this junk away!' becuase I got far too much of it piled up ^

Great pics! It's always nice to see a documented restoration. I can never get enough pics from this site. Nice tractor. Even nicer collection! With even a nicer shop!!!!! Look forward to watching your progress. G

Chris thanks for the warning...but I'll bet the PO broke off the exhaust pipe in the engine because he had a stack muffler?? With that much length (leverage) it can happen easily (thats why I've been afraid to use one). Or maybe it was just rusted thin? But I did check mine first...Its really solid, I was thrilled because the Nelson muffler is too. Just a wire wheel and hi-temp paint sm01

Actually I have a son who was into recycling scrap for $, I'm still missing a Heavy Jackstand, 5hp aluminum engine, etc...Plus my need to label everything is due to a bit of OCD. sm00 I prefer CDO, thats OCD with the letters in alphabetical order, as they should be :D

Greg,

I just could not resist running out in the 13* weather to check my '65 BIG TEN dash panel. This machine was donated to me after the engine granaded. Evidently it did not have a light kit on it. No provision for a switch of either type.

Good luck with both projects...

Thanks for the confirmation Wayne, I think the Big 10 was just before the B12 came out so it woulda had the toggles on the lights. then the "renamed" B10 and the B12 had a knock-out in the dash for the light switch...if I just learned it correctly 8

While we're on lights; does anybody know which B-models had the rare dash light option? I thought I saw a B10 type (slanted dash) with a light near the top...to see the controls at night I suppose...Very Cool. I would like to add that if it's model correct?

Any ideas? Thanks...

:D Greg; for lifting engines I took a bum plug and knocked all the porcelain and middle electrode out of it. Removed the ground electrode and welded a ring on where the top portion was. Screw into the plug hole snug and hook up your lift. Also did this to a D16 Champion for lifting my AEH Wisconsons. Dave.
