On my Simplicity Broadmoor 728, I have my 8 H.P. torn down in my basement. I have ordered both new crankshaft seals. The ones in there are in pretty good shape. But, i decided to add them in their anyway. (Only $5.OO more) Do i need a special tool to install or remove the seals.

I replaced the seals on an engine last week. I drilled small holes through the seals on opposites sides of the shaft then screwed drywall screws into the seals just far enough to get a good bite. A couple of tugs with a pair of pliers and the seal popped off. I installed the new seals by tapping them on with a rubber mallet and a PVC coupling of the correct diameter.

.

. With the crankshaft out, just pop them out gently with a screwdriver, protecting the edges of the block, gentle taps

back in are fine.....
