I just became a club member, so i haven't been able to post this until now. I picked this up about 3 months ago. I saw it on craigslist for $100.00 That's a great deal. The snow blower itself is selling for around $100.00!!! The tractor for around $350.00!!! I think i got an awesome deal. He thought the engine was seized, but it turns out how most of you know by now that the starter generator was filled with water. I'm in the process of restoring it see-and-how it was sitting in the same spot for 7 years. So after some begging of my parents to drive me down, I got their and paid him. Who-ever owned it, was really rough with it, and the front axle was cracked on both sides. Here's some pics, tell me what you think.

The starter looks toasted?? May be able to rebuild it yourself if the windings are ok?? I'm sure brushes & bearings can be found online

If memory serves, all the Briggs engines from rear engine Snapper mowers have that same crankshaft configuration. And if your area is anything like around here, those old Snappers are a dime a dozen making replacement engines dirt cheap. (at least in the 7-12 hp they were the same, someone with more knowledge of the newer stuff can tell you beyond that)

It may be that your wishing to remain stock and that's fine if its what you want but the money saved in not having to maintain a SG and voltage regulator is a plus as is not having horsepower tied up pulling the generator. And while your looking, Finding a later model with a Magnatron ignition is yet another +.

I only mention all the above because of the condition of the SG you have. If that one were mine, I would get a piece of 4 to 6 inch PVC a couple of feet long, glue a cap on one end and ease the main body windings and all down in in followed by the armature. Then pour it full of Evapo-Rust. It is said to be safe for all metal and attacks only rust. Worth a shot.

Good luck with your Broadmoor ! Those are fine little work horses, very tuff for the size.

Welcome, Ryan! Looks like a good deal with the tiller. You have a bit of work in front of you, but always keep your eyes open, you never know when another one comes along in good shape and great deal too. Make the best of both, sell the rest. With enough horse trading, repairing, buying and selling, eventually, like most of us here, you will end up with a very nice restored unit, and you actual out of pocket costs will be minimal or you may even be ahead of the game.

Nice start you have going there, and once again, welcome to the club.

I had the EXACT same issue with a starter /gen a few years back. FLOOD victim tractor. The whole tractor had been submerged at one time or another. I paid 50.00 bucks for just the tractor and sold the headlamps and wheel weights for 155.00 and scraped the rest for 30.00. I did NOT even try to rebuild the S/G.

It is totally origional Kyle, except for the engine. It's actually the 3rd one and hopefully the last. I bought it off a link here, Small Engine Warehouse, probably 8 years ago. A rare shortblock, sb397816. That's with a cast iron sleeve! I've since then tried to buy another, just to have on hand, incase something happens to this one. But it was discontinued.CI found out yesterday that, on E-bay, one was sold last month for 32 dollars! Brand new in the box, just like the one I bought for 275 dollars! Man talk about snooze and lose.

The only attachment I have is the one seen, the mower.
