Ball Hitch and Tree Work

Last fall September of 2012, I had a bunch of downed trees that needed cutting, splitting, and hauling across the yard. I found this simple 1 7/8 ball at Tractor Supply for about $5.00. I have gotten so much use out of adding that ball to the rear of my 3112. I needed to do some minor filing, but other than that it dropped right in. I believe it was a 3/4" stem.

I put a 1-7/8 ball also on my tractors however I did not want to open the hitch hole all the way to 3/4" on the narrow tab. I had in the past used 5/8" shaft balls, and was tired of just moving it around. When i started to looks for a few more, I found them only at TCS. Not web/mail order but "store pick only" so I had a friend that lived far away but near a TCS pick one up for me. I eventually got it from him. now all the tractors are happy with new balls.

I'll have to go back and measure the stem of the ball. I did not need to drill out the rear tag. I was happy to find the right stem size at my local TSC. I merely lightly filed off a few rough edges. It may have been drilled by a PO.

Here are some photos from the second weekend. This splitter had a double wedge which made for faster work.

The pile kept getting bigger as I had to haul cut logs up from the ravine.

Thanks Josh. That seems to be a big part of the fun with these machines, is finding rugged uses for them around the yard and house.

Very nice! Always great to squeeze in as many uses for the old machines as you can.

I found a 1 7/8 ball made for garden tractors at Fleet Farm. It has a 1/2 inch fine thread shank which fit nicely on my tractor. If I remember right, it was about 6 bucks or so.

id="quote">Thanks, without this tractor, I could not have easily hauled this trailer load across the yard. The 3112 has earned it's keep. The newer splitter was a friends. The older splitter was a rental. The double wedge on the old splitter made everything so much faster.

Thanks Greg, I appreciate it. :D

Tony, Glad to help out on the parts. I look forward to seeing that deck when you get it done. dOd

I am hoping to expand the shed this spring so I can fit the 3112 in there with all the attachments, plus a sister. dOd

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
