Mower deck rebuild 48"

Recommended Posts

ngale65

Well this fall i decided to take my mower deck and put bearings in it. that turned into well lets paint it. Then in the middle of if i Picked up a JD 425 to be the new mower. So long story short i finally got my motivation back last week to put it all back together. I never would have guessed this project would have taken so long. but several trips to the hardware store for new hardware and taking time so not to scratch anything did pay off. Still have to put all the bolts in the top shields but wanted to get some pictures. The shell was in amazing shape once i got all the dirt and grime off of it. came off a 3112H simplicity. but is now yellow to go on the AC. I guess i will still be doing some mowing as im anxious to use it now.

Beautiful job! At least you will have a brand spankin new deck to add to the HB package. Those 48's leave great stripes. I prefer a 42 for my lawn, becuase I don't have a lot of room for long passes, but prefer teh 48 at my folks place where they have 2 flat acres of grass. Those hydro's can haul the mail with a 48" slingin clippings!

Greg,

Since Nathan has had some practice I am sure he could complete the rehab on your deck in half the time it took him to do his. Maybe you should ask him. What do you say Nathan?

Outstanding work, it is a good feeling too have it ready to go even though it is still cold outside. Make sure you torque the big nut on top of the spindle (above the pulley)..don't ask me how I know :o. jh

Nice job and great looking. I'm doing one now the first one ever for me and I should have just brought a new for the $'s I have in it. Seemed like everything on it was either bent or broke.

i have every bit of $200-250 in this and i would say about 20 hours. bearings, belts, tensioner, new hardware. it all adds up quick. and then sandblasting and paint.
