Simplicity 700 dust caps

Is there a dust cap that goes over the front wheel bearings on the front axle? My 1960 simp 700 does not have dust caps but my 1963 montgomery ward gardenmark does have dust caps. The pictures on the site are hard to see up close. Thanks for your help. John

I purchased dust caps for my 65 Landlord at an auto parts store. You just need to measure the inside diameter of the hub with calipers so you get an exact size.

The early WB700's had press in bushings with the wheels being held on by collars. there were no caps on these. The caps started when they began using the Taper roller bearings, this all to the best of my knowledge. Sam

I bought a box of 70 or so of those 2" dust caps from a surplus place here. Been getting about $8 a pair average if anyone wants some. $3.50 shipping in the states. Sam

I believe the wards gardenmark has the roller bearings and the simp. 700 must have the pressed in bearings without caps. I was not referring to hub caps but the cap that goes over the bearings and collar. Thanks for all of your responses. John

If you will look back into the discussions (in mid summer I believe) there was a discussion on this subject and a member actually posted the specific cap to ask for at auto parts stores. I don't know now what page it is on in the archives but, I'm sure you can find it.

The 700 and the 725's did not have dust caps but had rubber seals incorporated into the bearing itself to keep out dust and dirt. It only used a lock collar to secure the wheel and Allis offered a yellow plastic cover that fit over the lock collar .

All the 725's I have had( and there s been quite a few) with the taper roller bearings have all had the press on dust cap.. this was in addition to the rubber seals. not sure when the rubber seals ceased but I have found those on Landlords and I think on the 101's too. SmilinSam
