transaxle swap - different speeds

Recommended Posts

perry

put a transaxle from a 3012V into my 2010 and now the tractor is slower . I thought it would be the same trans just with a longer output shaft. my 2010 has always been the fastest tractor out of my fleet. only thing i can think is they put different gears into the 3012 trans. would be curious if anybody has compared the inner gears of the two transmissions.

Would it be possible to change the pulley sizes on the drive side to increase the ground speed?

I never noticed when I swapped a variable into a gear tractor. I've done a couple that way.

According to what tech specs are available the 3 speeds all had a max speed of 6 mph, while the variables were 6.6 mph. I just thought it came from the variable pulleys.

I guess you could compare part numbers if you looked at a parts breakdown from both.

sorry Perry

Perry I know what you are asking. That squire 10 I just built up is that way to.

Me on the squire10 boy on his 2012 and the squire will run right past him like he is sitting still and my squire even has the larger 8 drive pulley. And I have been scratching my head on this one for a while now to. So your not alone.

MPH

Bryan, a larger pulley, think it's 8 inches versa 6 on these machines will slow you down. I have a 10 on the 725 for tilling and almost fall asleep crossing the yard to till.

Perry, you did reuse your old pulley??

You have to take into account the pulley on the engine also, or the bgb pulley that drives the tranny. It isn't only the size of the tranny pulley, it is the ratio between driver and driven. If one tractor has a4 inch driving an 8 inch, and the other has a 2 inch driving a 4 inch, the ratio is the same. But if you change the trannys, one will be really fast, one really slow.

Perry. Are the tire circumferences the same? You didn't swap tires by any chance did you?...Dave

id="quote">
id="quote">put the same tires back on with less the weight in them. this tractor had a HI-LO on it for few years and i opted to put the stock pulley back on when i did the trans change since it's only a snow plower now. the tractor was just as fast before and after i put the HI-LO on. I guess it's a mystery with the 3012V trans . all the 3spd's have the same gears inside the transmission. wonder if the differential and spinning axle have anything to do with slowing it down ?.
