Check out this new tool on the AC Site. It is a map of the USA with the ability to note your specific location and add a comment. Kent, could we do this as well?[A href='http://www.24fun.com/cgi-bin/gmapview.pl?owneremail=support@allischalmers.com&gmap=usa&mapstyle=styl']http://www.24fun.com/cgi-bin/gmapview.pl?owneremail=support@allischalmers.com&gmap=usa&mapstyle=styl[/a]

It might be cool but it only works on internet exploorer 5 or higher. It dosen't work on any version of Netscape. Many people who access this site use various versions of netscape. I use netscape and I also use netscape from a linux (unix) machine because microsoft dosn't see fit to make a version of explorer for other systems. I would think a simple image map with maybe some backside programing, that I think someone like Kent is capable of would make more of the membership happy. I know , I know, the site uses .asp (active server pages) for the bulk of things, and I believe image maps can be made fairly easly even under .asp. I also think that the current way of searching up members on the site works just fine and in either browser. PhilD

Cool idea but the map stinks, it only includes the "lower 48". there's members here from Canada, down under and way up north here...mph

Well, I have to apologise as the map does indeed work in netscape 4.7 as Galen has said. However it does not work in Netscape 6.1 which seems to be a real dog. It also appears to call perl scrips as he said which should work on any browser so I don't know why it dosen't work in 6.1. The newer netscape seems to work fine at other sites though. Guess I'll go grease the snowblower I just put on. Phil D

Right now, I'm trying to add in a new user registration / security system that will ensure that the person's email address is accurate (emails them their 1st signon instructions) ... and allows the user to request an email with their password any time, or choose to set a cookie.... I wish I had half the talent you guys give me credit for, because when it comes to programming, I have to hack my way through following other examples... and the results are VERY UGLY!

PhilD, Perhaps I'm missing something, but it works for me with Netscape 4.77 on Linux. This tool seems to be written in Perl, which I'm sure would work just fine in conjunction with this server. So I don't believe asp iterations would be necessary. I empathize with those not on 'the map', per se. I'm not interested in pressuring Kent either way. I get tremendous value from this site with or without the graphics. regards, Galen
