I may be buying a 7117H for $65 (I can't go wrong... really). The only thing is that it is missing the engine. Northern wants about $1500 for one. I have a spare K341 in the garage. Would I be able to use that instead? What kind of hardware would I need if it can be done? Lastly if all else fails, what is an average price for a used KT17S, and would I have to replace the crank or are there adapters for that? John PS If all else fails I can use the parts for my 7010 project.

You don't want a KT17, trust me. If the K341 has the same pan used by Simplicity/AC it will bolt right in the frame as there are already holes drilled in it for those. You will need to get a longer driveshaft. not sure as to wiring the charging system, but my guess is its likley close to the same thing. I'm sure someone else here can cover that. i don't know whu you would have to chage cranks. If you do not have a driveshaft adaptor for the flywheel on the 341 you will have to get one. SmilinSam

Sam, How much longer of a drive shaft? I havent't measured anything yet, but would a 7010 driveshaft fit? As for the crank question, when I was looking in the northern catalog they sell 3 types john deere, cub cadet and SIMPLICITY (notice capitalization, saving the best for last) each with varying shaft sizes. With a little skill and a lot of luck I might get it together and running in a day, not tomarrow though exams and papers due soon. School getting old, get my degree get a job and play with my tractors. John

Unfortunately I am a poor college student right now. So I have to make due with what I have, the K341. I put in a K-301 same dimensions on the outside. (I’m using it for my 7010 project, the K-341 still has all the mosquito sprayer stuff hooked to it). With the stock drive shaft I'm short 2 3/16 inches. If I use another of the plastic spacer blocks 1 5/8 inches thick I'll still be short 9/16 inches which can be made up for by using the bolt collars, between the flywheel adapter and the drive shaft(actually the fiberglass disk) from a B-112 which is 1/2 inches then add a washer to make it the 9/16 which I need. Now for the questions. 1) Most importantly... Is it SAFE? (I'll be using good quality bolts grade 8 or stainless) 2) How much are the black spacer blocks? (that go between the engine and the drive shaft) 3) Is it worth the trouble? 4) What tractor has about a 19 11/16 inch (from outside flange to outside flange) drive shaft? (no longer) to avoid all this stuff. 5) How much is the longer driveshaft?

John, the K341 will drop right in using the KT17 drive shaft. The holes are already in the frame, the ignition plug will connect and away you go. The only work will be the throttle and choke cable (which you could get from your Sim dealer) need to be shortened or rerouted. I would get an M18 or M20 (Kohler Magnum) and drop in, these are great engines. Good Luck! Mike S.
