Any chance you can get more HP out of a Briggs tha

I'm thinking of building a 12 HP Briggs for a B-212 and enter local "stock" class's in WI garden tractor pull's. An area builder has done Kohlers and push's close to 20HP out of the 14 HP kohler block. I guess rules allow a Kohler to be substituted as a replacement for Brigg's? And some modifications are allowed? Is there any chance or way a Brigg's can compete? I'd buy a Brigg's 14 HP as I guess rules allow up to a 14HP in the stock class. But is anyone familiar with anyone that can make that kind of H-P out of a Brigg's?

In my opinion there is no way you can cosistantly beat kohlers with a briggs. The problem is the briggs can't wind out like the kohler and can't be modified for pulling as much either. Just my 2cents

Right you are JV,IF you could be allowed to mount the Kohler carb on it,that would be a bunch better, Long stroke is good but square bore// stroke is much better for racing. We threw a Kohler in a 3310 and ''changed'' it to a 7012!,with another hood,,not really illegal as they made both models. In the Koh get a good 5 angle valve//polish job,big base lifters, bore out main jet .008 bigger, copper head gask;[if allowed!] and you will be putting out around 16 hp out of a 301.

You can get horsepower out of a briggs. I took a standard 10 horsepower block out of a B-110, block was locked up. Put about $500.00 in motor. Put in tractor and then hooked it to a dyno machine. Now have a 10 horsepower motor that puts out 17 horsepower at 3400 RPMs.
