Re Building 32" Tiller

Recommended Posts

B110guy

Was a bad day in the garden for me. Bearings on the tine shaft of the 32" tiller on my B110 are so shot that the tines were hitting the lower mounting brackets. Tie that in with the top rod not pivoting and there was no tilling today. Any tips for someone without a flaming wrench for getting the tine shafts off the main drive shaft or for loosing the top rod? Looks like the bearings aren't too expensive.

In my experience, without a means to heat the shaft you will need a lot of penetrating oil, stamina/patience and a BFH! sm00

Maybe you can get a come along on it to act as a puller. Stay out of the "line of fire" though as when it comes off, it will likely be sudden.

I have similar experience, Mack. Think I'll load it up and take it to my dad's place sometime. He's got a flaming wrench.

I have had good experience using a cut-off tool to slit the outer tube. This will avoid any heat effecting a temper in the main shaft. The slit can be welded shut after, or you can weld a outer tube over. Not completely simple, but a preferred method by me.

I welded a large nut on the end of each tube and used a piece of all-thread with a nut welded on the end as a puller. Worked great. I left the nuts on in case I have to pull it apart in the future.

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
