Kohler K341

Recommended Posts

I've got an AC 916h, with the Kohler K341. I've puled the engine and flywheel to do a few things that needed doing. Problem is, I've messed the threads up a little bit on the crankshaft, where the hold down nut for the flywheel goes on.

It isn't so bad to make it unusable, but I need to clean the threads up, and either replace the nut, or chase those threads as well.

Q: What size are these threads? I plan on calling a few industrial type places to get the tap and die needed on Monday, and I need to know what to ask for. Or if there's an easier way to do this I'm not aware of, let me have it!

Unless you messed them up really bad, You might be able to file them to a point that the nut will thread back on. Use a very small triangular file or a small thread file. LOL Bob

If you really mess up the threads, you can cut the threads off the crank and drill and tap 7/16 fine threads the same as a lug bolt on the inside of the crank, then use a lug bolt and washer to hold the flywheel on. I broke the threaded portion off a crankshaft and fixed it this way. A friend of mine told me that was a fix from Kohler for a broken thread on a crankshaft. At one time Kohler was having problems with the cranks breaking at the bottom of the threads. They eventually fixed that problem.

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
