engine sputters when hot

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I have a 7116 that after about 20 minutes of running with the mower on starts to sputter and lose power. I've heard a couple of possibilities from a bad coil to valve clearance, any thoughts???

I am a rookie mechanic and know very little but I can do wonders with proper guidance. For example on my cars I use my Chilton books and I can do wonders. Do they have anything like that for my tractor.

My neighbor was having the same trouble on his CubCadet. Turns out the gas was boiling in the filter causing vapor lock. He was using the last of his gasoline he bought last winter for the snowblower. We believe switching to summer gas will solve his problem.

Certainly sounds like a fuel related issue. I would check the fuel flow. There may be a restriction in the fuel line or the cap vent may be blocked.

Yup, sounds like fuel, but could be a coil going bad. I've run into this on singles numerous times, and the issue has often been gasket related. When they heat up enough to expand, etc, they can allow air to be drawn into the intake manifold, leaning the fuel flow. Easy to check for before buying electical parts.

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
