Powermax front clutch question

Recommended Posts

robnan

I'm trouble shooting a front electric pto on a powermax and was wondering if anyone knows the correct ohms there should be across the plug looking into the electromagnetic coil, I'm showing 16m ohms. which doesn't seem correct. If someone could be kind enough to check theirs it would be greatly appreciated. I am unable to find the proper specs on this clutch. If I can confirm that the winding is bad, I may be able to get it rewound at a local shop.

No simplicity expert here, but have done a number of other clutches.

In 12v systems, the typical range is 2-5 ohms. Below that, you're getting into dead short territory - above that, and open windings.

A 1 ohm reading pretty much spells trouble - 1 ohm @ 12v = 12 amps draw.

If you really meant 16 meg-ohms - yeah - your coil is blown.

(You need to make sure your not reading across a diode)

There's nothing special in my experience, going from one brand/application to another. First link below is spot-on MO.

John, thanks for the reply. as suspected the coil is open, upon removing the sand and looking at coil, one lead has a high resistive open. so, tomorrow im off to the local shop to see how much its going to run to have this rewound. I will keep posted. also the links you sent are great!

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
