Kohler Command CH18S Runs Rough

Recommended Posts

bigdog46

I recently purchased a Simplicity Sovereign 18 hydro with a Kohler Command CH18S engine. The engine runs rough at WOT unless I give it a little choke, then it runs good. I have checked fuel flow, tank vent, etc. I have not tried to clean the carb yet. Can the main jet be opened up slightly on the carb to correct the lean running problem? This is my first experience with the Command so am looking for some help. Thanks.

The jet is fixed. If choke is open and it is sluggish, you will more than likely have to close choke a little to richen up the air mixture. Sounds like obstruction to me.

I had the same issue with mine. There was a bunch of trash in the fuel bowl. A thorough cleaning and blowing out passages with compressed air made a world of difference.

Removed carb and cleaned gunk from bowl, used carb cleaner and compressed air on all passages. The idle fuel adjustment needle was turned all the way in and bottomed out so opened up 1 1/2 turns when reassembling. It is very hard to adjust it when the carb is installed on the engine due to small clearance between carb and gas tank. Runs great now with choke completely open. Thanks for all your help.

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
