PTO Tension Spring

Recommended Posts

still having issues with mower leaving high grass when you mow. it leaves a rollover effect & was wondering if the tension in the spring is gone(part # 157262). it does seem strong but its 40 years old.

If your blades are sharp (and right side up:D)

And you are running at, at least 3/4 to WOT and

at a speed about as fast as a fast walk and it

still isn't cutting check the belt on your deck

to see if it's tight and the pivot for the belt

tightener is free, check for glazing etc.

Good Luck!

This happened with my dad's Sovereign and was related to the tension spring for the deck belt. The slot the spring hooked into had rusted and become elongated, taking tension off the spring. The deck ended up being rotted out, otherwise I would have drilled a new hole beside the rusted out slot to hook the spring on.

You might check the blade height it should be about 1/4"

higher in the front then the back.

If its set so there flat with the ground you will get a

lousy cut.

It looks like you have new rollers, that could change

your rear blade height.

Keep trying we'll get there.:D

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
