RUSTY GAS TANK

Try doing a single keyword search for "tank" or "rusty". This has been discussed many times on this site. From what I recall (I've not had this problem - yet) the concensus seems to be to remove the tank, put a handfull of nuts in it and shake it around awhile to loosen flakes, clean it out and coat the inside with one of the products discussed in earlier posts (something called "Kreem" for one). Here in NY we take a gas tank to a radiator shop and they clean the inside plus make repairs. If a new tank is only about 80-90 bucks I would buy the new tank. Even if you could get it cleaned for 30 you only saving 50 or so dollars and you're not going to be sure about it's integrity. Most of these tanks are really old. Everything gives up the ghost eventually. My 2 cents. Woody

You can also try spraying Easy-Off oven cleaner in the tank and letting it sit for awhile. Then throw in a handful of nuts and shake around. You will be amazed at the results. I've done this on many dirt bike gas tanks with good results. You can then use a gas tank sealer. Easy-Off is apparently similar to the special gas tank cleaners that you can buy but only costs $4 rather than $24. Good Luck
