Tiller problem

I have a 32" round top tiller on my LL. The drive chain keeps jumping off the sprocket. It seems like the chain's a little too long. But, removing a link makes it too short. Is it possible that the chain stretched over time, and that replacing it with a new chain would shorten it up just enough?

I don't know how the price of a new industrial chain would compare with what I did on mine, but it might be worth checking out. I took out three links from my chain and put in three new "safety" links that I had from a similarly sized motorcycle chain. It tightened the chain up enough to stop the jumping off. (I'm calling these "safety" links because I don't know the proper term. It's the links with the removable sidebar that can be taken on and off to remove a chain from a motorcycle).

Good luck
