New (to me) Landlord 990314

Got what I think is a good solid early Landlord off ebay about 35 miles from home. It has what appears to be the original 23D the serial number indicates that the engine was built in January of 65. The simpletractors site indicates that the 990314 was made in 63 and 64. Does anyone know if they continued with this model into 65? Here are the pics.

All I know so far is that it turns over and does not have spark. It was sitting in a hog barn for a year and is rusty (surface) and is full including the flywheel shield of mouse stash mostly walnut shells and small grain leftovers. When I turned it over I heard a kind of grinding, turned out to be the leftovers inside the flywheel cover. Anyway I'm exited to get her going they are such cool looking tractors.

I agree....a great lookin survivor. Seat looks amazing for the age. Anything is possible with the model year overlap, or maybe even a rare warranty replacement engine.

Nice machine! I found this site & it says the 23D was made from April 1963 to May 1965 & gives the serial # range. I read somewhere that Briggs & Stratton used a different numbering system for their early serial numbers. They didn't start using the year it was made in their serial number until late 1965 or 1966, but don't quote me on that. My 23D Landlord serial # is 69378 & I origonally thought it was built in 1969 but there was no 23D produced that year. So I found this site & it seems like mine is a late 1964 engine according to the serial # range on this site. Nice looking machine you have there.dOd Here's the link & scroll all the way to the bottom for the 23D. I hope this link works if not let me know. Tim

990314 was only available for 1964 model year and with 23d engine. 1965-66 were models 990350 and 351 with the 10 HP engine. After that came the flat hoods.

Mine had the same problem, it would turn over but it had no spark. So the first thing I would look at is the points. The gasket on mine was broken, letting moisture in and corroding the points, so i just took the points completely off, and I took a small mil-bastard file to them, put them back on, and sure enough a nice blue spark. It's nice having external points on these tractors, no need to pull any flywheels:D

Well I was hoping to get the engine out last night but came up short. I had a few minutes tonight and I think I need more than clean points.

We discussed this a while ago with my neighbors Murray but boy can those little buggars move a lot of stuff.
