Tractor towing device

Do I recall someone having seen a post on a device for using the rear lift for towing dead tractors such as would be used like a tow truck??? I have a reasonable idea of what I want to build but not sure of the dimensions. Help, anyone?? Thanks.

I use a snowblade hitch, without the blade. Put a bolt through the hole for the blade pivot, secured with a nut, about 2" or so of the bolt sticking up. Mount it to the front of your favorite machine.

Now you can get behind a dead one, line the bolt up with the hole in the frame for towing a dump trailer, etc. Lift it, and you're on your way. No hydro's to disconnect, no transmissions to worry about, and I feel it's easier to maneuver when the dead one is in front of you.

Thanks for the ideas ,guys. My thought was to use a 1" diameter piece of cold rolled bar stock with the proper bend, gussets and length to create something like a boom pole on a bigger tractor. By asking I've come up with some great ideas. On the comment about towing the hydros my favorite story is the time a guy called me and wanted to know if I'd come look at his tractor and see why it wouldn't move. He and his buddy had done some work on the engine or bevel gear box (don't quite remember which) but when I got to looking at it the valves were up like they shoulda' been. Of course, the rest of the story...The morons had towed the thing about 1/2 mile from the buddy's house on a state highway----"but I know we were never over 25 or 30....". So, I sold them a used transaxle with hydraulics for $350.00 and stressed NO WARRANTY.

Thanks for the pics, Perry. That's what I had in mind but I'm just using a straight piece of bar stock. How about a measurement from the top of the tube to where the bolt holds the chain? Thanks again.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
