Sunstrand hydro trans- rebuild or replace?

Recommended Posts

DMKNLD

My Sunstrand hydro trans on my 7114 was leaking badly at the mid-case seal where it was rebuilt at some point in its prior ownership, so I swapped it out a couple seasons ago with the same model Sunstrand trans from the AC 916 parts tractor I have.

Now that trans is increasingly leaking oil at the trunion seals, so I was wondering if it is worth it to rebuild my original trans and swap it back in, or just go w/ another used one? Or can I just replace the trunion seals - is that a relatively easily fix?

So I picked up a new rear trunnion shaft seal to replace my leaky one. Any tricks to getting the old one out or putting in the new one?

The Sunstrand Hydro 15 manual recommends wrapping the shaft in plastic and lubing it w/ fluid to slide the new seal in to prevent distorting or tearing the new seal, but it doesn't show which way the lip seal goes in, ie facing in vs facing out.
