Recommended Posts

A few years ago while Approaching my Mailbox I thought I seen what looked like my favorite Tractor, and like every other day I did Nothing about it until recently. What little did I know.So i picked up this little Gem probably because it said Vintage Series on it.

Just a Basic black Mailbox.

So I started gathering parts and picked up this "HUFFY" 5 wheeled parts tractor for the Rear tires. It was my $10 auction deal this summer.

07202013 069.JPG

The Rears are Carlisle's with the Nubs still on them, I will sandblast and paint the rims.

07202013 076.JPG

I Mocked it up with a Block of Wood. Hopefully you can tell what kind of Tractor it is by now. I also picked up a set of Front tires and Rims at Northern Tool & Equipment.

07202013 083.JPG

Gave it a straight axle on the front.

07202013 084.JPG

I Used a piece of cardboard for a Grill side, and added a Cake Pan to Raise it up.

07202013 085.JPG

And added a Cardboard Hood.

07202013 089.JPG

The Rear rims Have been Blasted and Painted and are ready to go.

07202013 090.JPG

With the help of a Paper Template I made what is the side of the Dash.

07202013 095.JPG

By now the front rims have been Painted and are dry, and a rear Axle is added.

07202013 093.JPG

Using more dimensions and a Full Paper template I used a 4' Fluorescent light Fixture Body and bent up a Dash.

07202013 094.JPG

By now the the mailbox has been cut.....

07202013 102.JPG

In more than 1 Direction and the Dash is Fitted.

07202013 103.JPG

Here, All the Parts are Taped or sitting in Place. More to Come.

Thanks for the Comments You Guys. This is a Project Gone Crazy. Now the wife thinks I'm Nut's, and every time I pass a Mailbox I say Tractor !Because We all know Cake Pans are best used for making Cake, I removed the cake Pan and added a 2" x 2" piece of angle Iron bent to size and Welded it.

07202013 105.JPG

Stainless Steel Grill sides were cut.

07202013 108.JPG

And I welded them to the Angle. The frame down the middle is Garage Door Opener Pieces that snap together.

07202013 113.JPG

The 2 Rivets that are used for the Door Hinge were removed and I added a Piece of Piano hinge so the Door will lay open instead of Pivot Underneath the Mailbox.

07202013 114.JPG

A paper Grill was added.

07202013 115.JPG

More on the way.

Am I the only one that noticed the cool little coffee can Nelson type muffler hiding in the background of the third photo????? This is definitely going to be one awesome Mailbox.

I second the question that Kenny Asked. Have you cleared this with your postal carrier?? Their are regulations to adhere to. Inquiring minds want to know!!

Excellent job so far. This is sure to be a full on work of functional art. Cheers!!! Zip~

Zippo good eye, I almost didn't post that picture for that very reason of the Muffler, the muffler pipe still needed to be cut shorter and the exhaust hole drilled, I also sandblasted it, and so you missed the other pieces in the Picture then ?I will not be using this for a real mailbox as I have 3 months of time into it Already. As of now I think we are on our 4th mailbox and 5 different Posts because of Snowplow hits or Cars, It's not worth the Risk. Here it is 1/2 scale next to Superbman101 muffler.
