Help with spark...Briggs Model 326431

Recommended Posts

Have you changed the plug? I just had the same issue, no spark, on an engine I was selling. No "pop" on the engine, nothing on a spark tester. So the first thing I did is always the easiest. I changed the plug. Spark tester showed spark, engine ran.

At times, I have even tried a few plugs if need be. You would be surprised that even new plugs are sometimes (rarely, but sometimes) bad.

...The condenser does not actually "store the spark"

until the engine needs it...It's there to absorb the

spark that would normally arc across the points and

burn them when they open to fire the spark plug.

If your points are not burned evenly across the flats, most likely, it is the condenser. A bad condenser will burn a set of points on roughly half of the surface, or, "on one side"

Had the same problem on same engine. Turned out when I pulled the flywheel cover off the wire coming from the magneto to the condenser was partially chewed through and it was jumping spark half the time.
