magnum 20 choke plate not closing

Recommended Posts

joelk

I have the engine out of my Sunstar and am fixing this and that. One item I found is the choke plate does not close completely. There is no cable connected, so that is ruled out, just appears to "hit" just before closing all the way. It always started right up (but you could not choke it to death), and I am concerned about winter duty. How do I go about fixing/troubleshooting this? Any help is appreciated.

.

...If the plate or lever are not bent it may be that

someone loosened the screw and let the shaft/plate slip

out of alignment....Do not try to take the screw all the

way out, but loosen it and center things, there may be

an indentation on the plate that points out alignment,

then retighten when it fits the bore.....

Thanks Multiplicity,

I just looked at the parts manual and what you are saying makes perfect sense. This is definately not the first time this motor was taken out so anything is possible. I'll give that a try and see how it goes. Thanks again.
