720 / 9020 rear PTO clutch bearing # or dimension

my collar on the pto shaft seems a bit more wobbly than it should. The bearing in the clutch is a simplicity part # 176050. I see an old post that this is a Napa 6908VAL (these list now for $82! is it a special bearing?, I thought 6908 was a common number)

So can anyone help clear up my confusion. Anyone know what the original 720/Powermax 176050 bearing dimensions are and if there's a replacement? I guess it's spinning at engine rpms, so could be beefier than a wheel bearing or such? But then the bearings in the pivot shaft were pretty ordinary.. Anyone better at searching the archives than me?

Thanks Ray, I was just wanting to make sure this was the correct bearing as well and leave a clear post for the next soul who goes looking for one. Rock auto says the 6908val is:

Inner Diameter (in) 1.5748

Outer Diameter (in) 2.4409

Width (in) 0.5906 that would be

40mm ID 62mm OD 15mm thick [6908VAL]

Is that correct for the 176050 Powermax rear pto clutch bearing? I think the other threads somehow got this bearing confused with the sunstar electric clutch bearing and had some different dimensions. Must be made from some special material!

Larger bearing is 70mm smaller one is 60mm. The 70mm one is the same as clutch on the engine. Rear pto has 2 bearings. StanD

Item 23 is no longer available anywhere. that I know of. Last ones I had I sold to CleanBee. You might check with him to see if he will part with one. Some one on here has retrofitted the 62mm by boring the hub or retainer casting but tha must get very close to the bolt pattern for the clutch assembly. The larger bearing is in the front of item 18. It is still available from Simplicity but spendy. StanD

Looks like this has been asked before... swear I searched for a while and came up with little, too close to fishing!Anyway, for future reference and the next person tp go round, The 720/powermax front clutch uses on bearing (49 on the drawing below) 177960, aka 2177960sm, and simplicity 1663355 (still available -might have wider inner race?) This bearing is 40mmx72mmx17mm. This bearing also can be found as SKF BB1-1108-2RS or NACHI #6207/40.The 720 rear PTO clutch assembly houses two bearings, one is the same as above for the front clutch (177960) and part 18 in the drawing above is 40mmx62mmx15mm (1.5748"x2.4409"x0.5906") . NLA. Timken x908cc, SKF 6908VAL, NAPA 6908VAL. Also GM 904778, chrysler 2533204. (have an old dealership around?) Others have had bearings ground, or modified the collar.There are plentiful 62x40x12mm single deep grove bearings around (inexpensive!) has anyone tried adding a 3mm shim with say 6908zz or 61908zz?(feel free to correct my mistakes)

The larger (part #49)72mm bearing can be adapted to work in the fount and back PTO clutch. A NAPA bearing SKF # RA107RR on the box. The bearing is stamped SKF YET 207-107 CW. This $20 bearing will work with some modification. Nothing difficult to fit but you will need to make a air gap spacer, plus this bearing is wider but you can take out the back spring retainer clip and the wider bearing will press in.

The smaller bearing (part 23) in the back pto clutch

a 6908zz works just fine, but as mentioned it will need a custom spacer made.

So I take it the retrofit of the napa bearing you did along time ago is still working and a good idea? (Dhardin ) I have the bearing ordered for tomarrow and am hoping to install.your elusive clutch article really helped .
