is it a problem

My Deutz Allis 1920 1691020 with a Kohler M20 seems to me is not shifting smoothely from neutal to forward or reverse. Is this normal or do I have a problem with the transaxle?

Its a Sunstrand model 15 on a peerless 2600 series transaxle.

I have replaced the shift dampner shock absorber with no improvement.

Is this the way they shifted back in the day, or am missing something else to diagnos?

Fluid level is up about an inch in the the tube.

Mine shifts very abrubtly also, difficult to make smooth transitions from Fwd to N to Rev. The shock absorber just supplies a resistance to the hydro lever. It doesn't really smooth out the transitions.

I have checked the lever rod, and all nuts are tight.

I guess the abrupt shifting is normal, or is it a flawed design?

Do you think the Sunstars or the Agco Allis 1920H have a smooth transition from neutral to forward or reverse, or is it the deutz allis with this problem.
