Hey everybody:

I have a generac 5000 generator, how would one determine if it will work turning either direction or not? engine is gone on generator and I'm thinking about using my 3414 to turn it.

thanks

You should be able to determine the rotation by pulling on the bad engine starter cord? You may have an issue anyway. Most of the generator sets had a tapered collar where it married to the engine shaft, I think?

It's worth a shot. Most AC generators will produce power either direction.

id="quote">Yes it should produce either direction. The only problem is it must have a bi-directional cooling fan in order for it to cool. The nameplate should give the rotation and if it doesn't most likely has a bi-directional fan and can be driven in either rotation. Sometimes a arrow stamped somewhere on it showing rotation.8D

brettw is correct, most direct drive generators have a tapered shaft and only 1 bearing on the back end. their usually isnt a bearing on the shaft side.
