Crakshaft cleaning

I use muriatic acid, it will clean it up.

Just wet a rag with acid and rub it a little and it will

slowly eat the aluminum, and wont hurt the crank.

Careful if you choose to go big with this. I don't know how much aluminum is there but this reaction generates hydrogen gas. Not a huge deal if you're dealing with tiny deposits and a rag, but if you chose to soak it in acid be careful opening the lid. A spark near that gas makes a pretty impressive explosion.

I used to take them to the local rebuild shop and put them in the "boil out". Ate the aluminum but not the steel. Is it possible the boil out chemicals went the way of real carburetor cleaner? I hope not.
