Deck Pulley

Working on a 42" deck. I need to know the diameter of the top pulley of reference 4 in the picture. The part number for the pulley for the 42" deck is 1679158. If anyone can measure the diameter of theirs it would be greatly appreciated.I have several of the reference 4 pulleys for the 48" deck that are 1679157 and the diameter is obviously different than the 42" because of different part numbers. The pulley (1679158) for the 42" deck is NLA any more according to Jack`s site and the number doesn`t come up in a google search either. So, if I get the diameter I will remove the top pulley and just weld the different pulley in place. I think it is probably 5" diameter since the 48" pulley has a 6" diameter upper pulley. Thanks

Wouldn't the correct size depend on what tractor it is going on?The size of the drive pulley determines size of driven pulley . This keeps blade speed at correct speed

I was looking at the one for the 42" deck I have and it's part 1656929. I don't know how it would be different but it looks the same in the picture.

Ron, the drive pulley is the 5" cone clutch pulley. the deck is product number 1691218.

Randy, that is interesting that they have another number for this deck. That number you listed for a 42" deck is for a 1690271 product number.

1692146 - Sovereign 18HP, Hydro and 42" Mower Deck

1692148 - 918H, 18HP Hydro and 42" Mower Deck

So I'm interested in the outcome.

I would have thought all the same tractor made about the same time would have used the same pulley.

For example, the 7116 shuttle number 1690661 takes a different pulley than the 7116 hydro number 1690662

while a later 7116 hydro 1690805 takes the same pulley as the shuttle, the first one, and an even later one 1691550 takes the second pulley.

:o:O:O???

So Ray, are you putting that deck on the correct tractor for your pulley or do you need Randy's pulley ??? LOL

Clear as Mud ;)

My 48" deck has a 6" top pulley. Since I posted last. I have found one that has 5" top pulley. Must be for the 42" decks.

Another thing is the depth of the recess in the top of the deck. The newer style 42" deck (1691218) has 3/4" recess. The earlier ones had 1-3/8" recess in the top of the deck. So that is going to cause a pulley height difference. They determined the pulley height by how tall of a hub that they welded into the 3 pulleys on the deck.

Which leads me to think I have all early style pulleys. Not sure if it would matter if the bottom of the arbor belt is 7/8" to the top of the deck?

I can confirm the mower deck I got that number from was a 1690501. It came with a 7112H, of unknown manufacturer number for the tractor (It was damaged and unreadable).

Thanks Dave, I figured it was the 5" pulley. Just wanted to make sure. Are the other two outer pulleys 4" diameter like I am thinking? I knew all the other decks have a smaller top pulley than the 48" decks.

ya ray the outer pulleys are 4 inches.

id="quote">Dave, if you have one of the pulleys that are off. Could you measure the length of the spacer on the bottom of the pulley for the length. The side that is on the bearing side. The ones that I have are 7/8" and I think they are to long. There were shorter spacers I believe. Thanks

Ray,

Lo,and behold! I just happened to have the center spindle from a deck I sold to a member in MN. The drive pulley is 4" diam, and the lower pulley (under covers) is 3.5". This is on a keyed shaft, not splined. The spacer between is 2.25" long.

It makes a good paper weight! LOL
