Marion, Thank God, Judy's fine (she's a tough old bird). That "big tank" absorbed the impact, plus the air bags deployed. I plan on working on tractors this winter, and not worry about fixing my car till the spring. Besides, the local insurance auction doesn't have a parts donor right now. Thanks for your concern, and have a Merry Christmas.[A href='http://www.iaai-bid.com/612_aulist.htm']http://www.iaai-bid.com/612_aulist.htm[/a]

Dutch, Some thoughts: 1. Now I know where the used car lots in Tennessee get their cars. 2. Have you ever considered it might be cheaper to trade wives than keep crashing Lincolns?? ;o) 3. How do all those cars from Texas wind up in NJ? Roy

Roy, 1) The average consumer would be shocked if they knew how and where some used car lots get their inventory. 2) Nope, never even thought about trading wives. Over the past 40 years my love for Judy has only grown. A machine can always be replaced (and Judy only wanted her ’89 back… NOT a new Mercedes or BMW). Actually, Judy is a very good driver. She has only been involved in one accident where she was the “hitter” rather than the “hittee” (this time, my car, and it really wasn’t her fault). The truck was stopped to make a delivery in the middle of moving traffic. 3) How do Texas cars wind up in NJ..? They’re transported. Why do they..? Money. If I ever wrote an expose book, I’d be on a few peoples’ hit list.

I don't know, I think I would have to side with your wife Dutch. I like the 89 better. Dad had a 89 and drove it 350,000 miles without a day in the shop before he retired it and bought a new one. The new one has been in the shop a couple of times in the first 50,000 I believe. Sam

Dutch, The latest Consumer's Report has an article on how a Mercedes from Florida wound up in California after being crashed and rebuilt a few times. Interesting story if you can get you hands on it. Just kidding about trading the wife. Roy

Well, Judy has her “totaled” ’89 car back. I replaced the front fender, side doors, straightened the cowl, door posts, and dog leg. Although she “hates” her ’99, she liked the sunroof, so I installed one in her ’89 because I’m a nice guy. Notice the car in the background in the 2nd photo..? That’s my “retirement” car. A ’91 with under 30,000 miles. The same day I finished Judy's ’89, she borrowed my ’91 and ran into the back of a truck. Either she was just sooooo excited about getting her car back, or she wanted me to have another project so I don’t have time to work on my tractors. It took me an extra day to install the sunroof. If I hadn’t, my car may still be undamaged. Just goes to show, no good deed goes unpunished. But, guess what..? I’m going to drive Judy's “old” ’99 until my tractors are done. PS. Judy even spotted the difference in the ‘89 parking lights (one clear lens with an amber bulb and the other an amber lens with a clear bulb). I told her it was that way before the accident. One port, the other starboard. She didn’t buy that. http://home.att.net/~herb.niewender/tc-seq.jpg

Dutch, Wow, I shouldn't have inquired so soon. Hope it didn't bring bad luck. Hope the Mrs. is ok! Look like you'll stay busy most of the winter. Happy Holidays.. Marion Kerr

While I'm not into automotive bodywork, I have to say that spacious well lit shop does turn me a certain shade of green...........Man-o-man I shure could clutter it up with tractors and associated items!! My dear wife has'nt busted a car in probably 20 years or so (knock on wood). Last time she left it idling in park in front of the church and somehow it got out of park and rolled a few feet into a power pole with only a slight dimple in the rear bumper. Lucky I guess. Dick

Classy cars and a classy wife. The odd problem makes you notice them and appreciate them even more.
