ready for winter

Finally got the new-to-me T816 ready for winter. 42 inch blower, new chains, wheel weights (thanks, Bear), and the necessary snow cab. I had to fab up mounts to make the cab work but I think it will be ok. Here are some pics:

Getting older, so I thought a helper lift spring would be nice, seeing as how I can't afford the electric lift kit even if I could find one:

Had to extend the chute rotating rod to fit inside of the cab:

I also ran a battery cable from the positive post of the battery so I can charge the battery if need be, I hope to mount it on the plastic shifter cover:

And a couple more:

Probably won't snow till February now, but I am ready when it comes.

Ryan, the blower still lifts higher on the lift rod side. I was hoping to level it out but it didn't help much. Maybe if I run the spring tighter it might, but it lifts pretty easy now and I want enough down weight to keep it on the ground.

The cab mount would have been easier, but the mount for the back of the cab rattled loose and out of my trailer when I brought the cab home. I thought the front mounts would work but they just didn't line up with my running boards right. I made all the mounts out of 1 X 1 X 1/8 angle iron.

After this winter I hope to have the blower taken apart and blasted and painted to match the tractor.

Looks good Steve.Hopefully the snow stays a little North of me so you can play with that machine all winter. What model blower is that?I think I got one just like that I will sell cheap if you need parts

Steve, I was thinking to do the same thing to mine. Your right about lifting it up and keeping it down, but the lift rod will help to keep it down with down pressure. Where would I put the spring?

Nice work as usual Steve. dOd

What you should do is put up copies of your cad drawings so others can make parts as well. The rod extension looks great!

Oh BTW. How long is your driveway?

Tim,

No drawings, just in my head, sorry. Also, driveway is enormous,,,, about 30 feet long and 24 feet wide. But I do blow the sidewalk half way around the block, and also the ends of most every neighbors driveway when they are plowed in good. Most neighbors have small walk behinds, and a couple of them are elderly. My tractors are a bit of overkill, but I just can't help it!

For the rod, I just cut it, then made the two connectors, which are 3/4 dia. 303 stainless about 2 inches long with a 1/2 inch hole reamed thru, and a couple of 1/4-20 set screws in each one. Then, I put about 9 inches of 1/2 inch crs rod between the ends from the cut with the connectors.

Ryan, a bit of info on the spring. I tried a couple of cheap ones I had but they weren't the right tension so I broke down and bought this one from Simplicity. It was only about $11. I hooked a few links of chain to a convenient bolt in the frame, then picked a hole in the blower and mounted the bracket. The bracket is just a pc. of 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 angle iron with a hole drilled for mounting, and one for the eye bolt. I was going to make a spring tensioner like the ones that come with the newer blowers but didn't have time, so went with the eye bolt.

Also, the cab came from a member on here, from prescott, Wisconsin. For the life of me I can't remember his name now, but you know who you are, and thanks! I hope your new home is working out for you, and your lady friend is getting crazy for tractors!

Todd,

The blower is a 1690548, 42 inch blower. I bought it down near west bend. The guy said he only used it one year and it is in really nice shape. Don't really need anything right now but will keep yours in mind. Thanks!

Here are pics of how the blower hangs crooked even with the spring, and also of the mounting brackets I made.

The 36" blower on my dad's old 4111 hung crooked as well.

You should see how crooked the two stage blower hangs off my dad's Crapsman GT5000.sm00sm00

It just has to do with where the lift point is.

Steve, one idea is to use an eye bolt to the cab frame to hold the chute turner handle. This way it only moves forward and back, not up and down in the cab. Nice looking rig! My 6216 and blower work very well. You will enjoy the snow, at least for the first few times....^

Found a photo if that helps some.

Just have to make sure the eye bolt is located as to not hit the handle and give you a bit of room for your hand. But since they are "close" together, makes less groping around some.

The tubing does not have much strength. If you weld, it would not be hard to split a piece of piple and tack it to a flat piece of stock, then just cut a hole, slide it over the lift arm, and use 2 of those pipe clamps on each side...would relieve a lot of the stress.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
