738 broadmoor transmission - stuck?

While blowing snow today it seems the trans locked itself in second gear and will not shift out. We have fresh 80w-90 in it and always shifted smoothly before.. Is there an easy way to fix this or are we better off with a different trans?

Do a search for a topic on the "bent screwdriver trick" on here, I don't have the link handy but it is easy to fix. I have found that when I shift, I am very deliberate in my shifting, and don't pull against the gates (straight to the center, straight up or down, straight into gear) and I haven't stuck one in years. Also, I think there are youtube videos by zippovarga showing how to fix this as well.

That looks like it, and on a 738, you get at it thru the oil fill plug. You might have to take off seat pan.

Also a good idea to come to complete stop during shift. This will help lessen the chance of stuck gears.

It's always good to have the pulley at a complete stop before shifting.

Belt stops aid in proper stopping of the input pulley to aid in shifting.
