backfiring problems

Recommended Posts

hybridv8

Hi everyone,I am just getting to the last of the rebuild on my 7116 and have come upon another running problem,I have converted my engine to a battery ignition system which seems to work pretty good but the problem is that it will run reasonably well till I get to about 2200 revs then it starts to splutter and I get huge backfires through the exhaust with some sparks as well like a small explosion then the engine tries to die,she idles fine,I have replaced with new parts the points, condenser, plug wire, coil and ignition switch and it has a brand new carbureter, its so frustrating, any help would be very much appreciated. If this has been covered before please point me in the right direction.

The above comments are valid how ever with the new carb you may be running lean which will give you the same results high RPM demands more fuel if the carb is set to the lean side the results are Backfire and stumble until RPM slows.
