PhotoPoint Alternative?

Kent

Recommended Posts

Hi Kent, To help out with the alternative photo storage problem here's a list from a page I linked to from my Photopoint Problems post a couple of days ago. The link is to TAG which is an auction watch site. People in auctions online need to store pictures and maybe their alternative list will help. Copy and paste the URL into your browser. Hint: DON'T COPY THE DASH (-) AND RATE DESCRIPTION (Free etc) !! or the url won't work. Much of it is auction oriented. I've been using epho.com. Their pricing is about the same as other sites, 25-50 cents per upload depending upon how many you buy in a lump. You get 5 free uploads when you sign up. Regardless, uploading photos is still pretty cheap, wherever you go. Paul

Check with your internet service provider. It took me a long time to figure that out. I'm with Compuserve and they allow you to make your own free web pages and free image uploads. I think others do as well. Hold your mouse cursor over the picture you're looking at and it'll tell you where it is hosted. That'll give you an idea of what others are doing as well. Brent

John, How did you get the picture to work using the image link bar? I signed up with clubphoto but I coudn't get the picture to show up using that. Works with the url link bar though.

Gee Sam, I'm not sure what it's set to but, I'm quite sure it's the PC's default setting (if there is such a thing). I think it's the only configuration I've ever known of on the computers I've used over the years. Looking to Control Panel, Mouse Properties, the right hand button is set for: "Context Menu, Special Drag", however, there are no other options aside from switching the left & right functions. John

Sam, You've got some unique settings on your mouse, not the default ones for Windows. Check under Start Menu >> Settings >> Control Panel >> Mouse to see what your settings are. Do you happen to have one of the scrolling mice, with the thumbwheel in the middle? If so, I think it uses a different mouse driver. You may want to see if you can go back to the default mouse settings.... When I right click a picturer in Internet Explorer, I can select Properties and copy the picture's URL from there, by highlighting it and using the Ctrl/C shortcut. In Netscape, it's even simpler -- just Right Click and select Copy Image Location.... Geeez, I actually said something positive about Netscape! '<) Kent

Knowing that a lot of you need a place to put photos online for free, I thought I'd point this place out. You can link to their photos and anyone can see them -- as I've demonstrated below. This is NOT an endorsement of them, since I've never tried them -- but I thought I'd pass it on in case someone else wanted to give them a try... I don't know the differences between the free and the Premium (you pay for) service, since I didn't sign up, but it might be worth checking out.[A href='http://www.fotki.com/'][img src='http://images.fotki.com/photos/1/16737/40847/ns-23-vi.jpg'][/a]

Brad, If it is just a picture (not an HTML page that contains the picture), you have to right click, go to the Properties option, then highlight the URL and copy (using CTRL and C keys). Then, paste it into the bottom option, Optional Image Link field. If it is an HTML page that contains a picture, you have to link it in by pasting the URL into the Optional URL link, and giving that link a name in the Text for URL field. Kent

2 button mouse , logitech drivers, left set a click select, rt set at double click. double button click now set at context menu. BUT, my menu that comes up does not have the "view Image" option. I have a properties option that shows the URL but I can not copy that unless I write it down with a pen and type it in later. I'll have to explore this later, time to go to work.

Sam, It sounds like you're running Internet Explorer, since you're not getting the Netscape option to copy the picture's location. Though it doesn't look like you can copy that URL off the IE Properties dialogue that you get when right-clicking the picture, you can. Just click and drag the left mouse button to highlight the address, then hold down the CTRL key while pressing the C key -- this is the Windows keyboard shortcut for the Copy command.... Then Paste it in wherever you want, using the shortcut for paste, CTRL and V.... Hope this helps, Kent

Here's another free one that I have used - it's not great but it is OK - beats paying .25 or .50 per pic! http://www.clubphoto.com/[A href='http://www.clubphoto.com/']http://www.clubphoto.com/[/a]

I think the way I get it to work is by: enlarging the thumbnail from ClubPhoto, right clicking on it and select "view image", right click again and select "copy image location". From here, I seem to be able to 'paste' anywhere from this site to eBay & beyond. I think it took we a while to figure this out, and like I said above it's not great but OK for me - someone really cheap!

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
