Missed the storms - Now STRIPES !!!

Had to go out this afternoon (mornings too cold!) and clean up down branches and leaning young trees next to driveway. I was lucky the recent ice storm did not knock more trees down.1. No that is not leftover Christmas decoration. But looks neat when the sun hits it!.

2. Looking up the driveway, from the turnaround, upper left is my '88 4212G sans transaxle, transplanting one from a '90 I bought for parts, but the drive pulley was bent 1/4" and had to be replaced**. You can see how far my 12YO Grandson got shoveling krt** subsequently found out the '90 transaxle is from a JD!!!:D

P82A0105.jpg

3. Now a view down the driveway towards the turnaround. The tracks are from two runs by my Forester, which had no issues with the nearly 8" accumulation

P82A0107.jpg

4. My old bank barn had enough of this snow, rain, ice, and under the collapsed roof material is a very old Craftsman 32" riding mower!

P82A0109.jpg

5.Back inside; a short stack of some very well seasoned firewood. I had to switch over to the wood fire for heat and hot water, since the oil dealer could not back down the uncleared 400' drive. extreme right side is the corner of my HS Tarm heater (which only uses 2.7 gal/day, but I was down to about 13 gallons in my 450 gallon tank (oil here is about $3.90 /gal.) The wood is free!

P82A0102.jpg

6. BUT, I have to carry the wood down to the basement from the patio, about 6-8 times a day, and THAT requires some low-ethenol fuel!

7. Yesterday, I was glad I carry "roadside assistance" on my Subaru, when I got stuck in my neighbor's drive as we were switching the four cars in our house around at the top of the drive!

You must be keeping all the snow to yourself Wayne.:D Up here in extreme NEPA this year we got a lot of nuisance snow, an inch or 2 or 4 here & there. I think we only had 2 major snow storms this year, this past Wed we got about 9 or 10" at my house & last Dec on the last day of deer rifle season we got quite a bit too. Luckily we both have woodstoves, especially when the power goes out or you run out of oil. I burn wood all winter & shut the oil burner off. I use about 7 to 8 cords a season. I go through quite a bit of low-ethenol fuel also.:o

Here in Muncie Indiana we're mere inches from breaking 50 year records. Worst Winter in my memory since 1978! Just not all at once or drifting two stories high. lol

Hang in there Wayne!!

Got some tires to change for the 4212, so I've been taking short spells outside on the patio to work on mounting the changing machine. Beside it being so cold, there is always the wind. Add to that, the need to work with gloves on (insulated I mean). When I have had enough of that, then I take my daily walks to the mailbox. Like...

With the weather removing some of the coverage off the tarps, I was able to start the "Field Queen" and let Her run for 15-20 minutes the other day. I told Zippo, that those vidios were my travel pictures.

Well it's off to bed and to prepare for 3 more days of weather this week.

Cheers,

Hey Wayne, I see a snow blower in your gallery, why do walk down such a narrow pathway?

id="quote">
id="quote">Just got a proper hitch for the blower from Dan, about 2 weeks too late. Had a private operator in to do what he could do with his backhoe, But what was fluffy had a chance to soak up subsequent rain, and turned to ice under the snow..the heavy woods do not let much sunlight in. Just drop branches and such that jams the blower! The 36" in the gallery, is on the '68 2110, which is currently in boxes on the shelf, waiting for milder temps to sand, paint and rebuild. So now the task is to retrofit the blower/hitch to the 4212G. The same hitch will come in handy in the spring, to run the weed cutter (as soon as I get that back together). Gotta sneak in the rewiring and getting the '69 2110 running, But with "Titan" on it's way east, I have no hopes for a break!Stoking wood into the heater for a month (about every three hours) took up a considerable time away from tractor stuff and sleep/rest! Once Curt got finished with the backhoe, I was able to get the oil dealer in w/ 200 gallons of fuel. NONE to soon, having ran out of wood, I was keeping the heater going on 15 gallons every other day of Diesel. I was lucky that my neighbor lent me his 3 jerry cans (mine are tied up w/ gas for the gensets (just in case)! On the lighter side, @ 75 my get-up-and-go, got up and went!Cheers,Wayne

Temps in the 50s today! Yesterday I shoveled the area around the Queen, and ran Her engine for about 20 minutes. She started on the first turn of the key.sm01 Worked on the rear tires, finally got the tire changer mounted onto the shipping pallet from the splitter. No problem at all breaking the beads on those Carlisle Turf tires. A little cleaning of the rims, and I'm ready to mount the new "Super Lugs".dOd

After 27 years here, I finally realize ice and crushed stone have a strong affinity for each other!sm02

  • 2 weeks later...

Today was in the mid 50s, and since the snow piles are nearly all gone, Until Tuesday (promise of a nor'easter again). Today I decided to attack the aging tires on the trailer, and install inner tubes.

Dscn0799.jpg

Continued to work on the transaxle, and while I can still access the casing, I added two zerks to be able to add to the Bentonite Lube. One is to add, and the other is to allow for any displacement of the original lube, when I add new marine grade grease. At this stage in the game I was able to use the drill press to drill and tap, without wobbling all over. I used the old transaxle (open in the basement) to locate two good spots to drill, and locate the fittings in the "transplant".

Dscn0796.jpg

Also had a chance to cure the new paint on some parts for the 4212G, in the sun 8D

Dscn0798.jpg

The bags are the Carlisle inner tubes (15x6.0-6) for the trailer tires..Now to clean up the parts for the disk brake, install w/ new pads, mount one of the new Super Lugs, and test on the transaxle for clearance*.Today (Friday) is supposed to in the 60s! dOd This will be a good chance to clean/paint the other rim.^ *If the mounted AG clears the brake, I may make the time to mount the "transplant":D:D:D

This zig-zag weather keeps me jumping between projects, So, when the outside temp dropped to 27, I escaped into the garage, and concentrated on cleaning up the disk brake assembly from the '90 4212G, and when that went down to 31 degrees, I retired to the basement @ 54 degrees, to install those parts onto the transaxle transplant...

The cleaned and rebuilt brake assembly (lower RH corner), and for comparison, in the lower LH corner is the assembly from the original transaxle. now after a little Lubriplate, or white lithium grease, the transaxle will be ready to install into the "Queen"!dOd

tire_on_ axle2.jpg

and it does clear the disk brake (WooHoo)...

tire_clearance2.jpg

Plenty of room to spare...Now if the rains would just abate (2-3 inches over nite). Friday is supposed to be clear. Be glad to be done with the current 4212 project, and get on with the 1969 2110 challenge, so I can get tilling for a garden.Wayne

After dumping her off the jack-stands yesterday, I put her back on the ground properly! Seems to be running OK, and the brakes are working (after rebuild). By then it was too dark to shoot a video!Since only one of the Ags is on a rim, She is still on the "borrowed" front tires from an EZ-GO! Heck!, "wheels is wheels"!dOdThis is the aftermath yesterday when She fell off of the jack-stands...

P82A02211.jpg

YEAH! all the tools, misc. nuts and bolts, IPL and OM printouts off the clip board, dumped out onto the crushed stone.*!!! A virtual game of 52+ pickup |)* I learned the hard way, that there are small particles in our local crushed stone, that are attracted to a magnet, making it more difficult to pickup scattered small hardware.dzCheers, Have a great weekend!

id="quote">Agreed! I was well out of the way, about 3' behind when the LH jack broke through the Masonite under it! Gotta stick to strand board...The "Field Queen" survived Her spill (not even a scratch!Visual proof!4212G test drive after transaxle transplant
This is running 1/2 throttle...dOdWell one step at a time..Gonna be off to swap out the 36" idler pulley, and make all those belt clearance set ups, and then see how the Gator blades work, after I use the "Queen" to straighten the drive way up a bit.Wayne
