Happy New Years everyone! Today I picked up two, single cylinder Lombardini diesel engines. I am going to put one in to my A/C 710 frame. In order to do so, I will have to cut a peice of the frame by the steering rod, to allow the oil filter in and let the engine sit level. I am a little conserned that it will weaking the frame a fair bit. Any thoughts on my plan, would be great. Thanks, William Jordan

The one is in running order and the other is for parts. They came off of tar kettles for industrial roofing. So they are pretty dirty. I'm not quite sure of the horse power but I would think it would be around 10-14 Hp. William Jordan

William, If you put this in, take a look at the 7790 set up. These things SHAKE A LOT, and they had a very elaboate set of mounts to allow them to jump around a lot. The version that Simplicity used was special and had the fuel igniter preheater for cold starting. It was special for this application. If you don't have "soft" mounts you are likely to have problems like ears broken off the crankcase and fatigue cracks developing in the frame etc. I don't have the answers, but have had some expereience with these. I only recommend that you do some research first, and maybe save some grief donw the road. Good luck, Al Eden

What kind of mounts would I want to use? I have some rubber strips about 1/2 inch thick. If I were to put them under the mounting brackets on the engine and drill holes through and bolting it down or would I better off using mounts like the seat mounts used on the B series? Thanks, William Jordan

As MPH said, remote filter kits are available. AMS oil, Hastings and Napa have them available. Many off road 4x4 enthusiasts put these on to eliminate the possibility of a punctured filter. Certain Ford and GM SUVS, have come stock with a remote filter for a few years now. It would be better to check into something like this before cutting the frame. Snowman

If you don't have to cut the frame, don't. If you do, I have taken 1/4, 3/8 inch rod and bent it to the form the edge of the section cut out, weld it in, grind it neatly and it will maintain the frame integrity. Make sure you cut enough out to allow for the extra material.
