Need hydro help

How much nuetral movement of the lever is there between forward & reverse? The short double ball joint in the linkage at the front of the hydro is a common place for play to develop. It will be most noticeable in reverse because the lever travel is much shorter, you run out of travel shortly after the play is gone. Bill

I have a Simplicity 3112H and the reverse speed regulation is very poor. Forward speed regulation is very good. When travelling forward from level ground onto a hill, tractor loads engine and climbs the hill at near constant speed, as it should. If I turn the tractor around and try to back up the same hill, the tractor will slowdown and stop. If I put the tractor’s shifter to full reverse, the tractor will climb the hill slowly. I have checked the drive belt (it’s new and not slipping), hydro fluid level, hoses for kinks and lubed / adjusted the shifter linkage. Has anyone heard of this problem before ? How do I fix this?

Bill, All the linkage play is taken up by the spring on the pintal shaft arm so on level ground I notice almost no nuetral movement between forward and reverse. Does the load on the pintal shaft change with load on the hydro, to the extent that the spring pressure is reduced in reverse and changes the pintal shaft to control lever position (due to linkage slop)?
