Timing an ONAN CCKB

Recommended Posts

I've recently came across a Simplicity 9020 with a ONAN CCKB. I need to get it timed.

1st question. Which is the # one cylinder?

2nd ? And how do i find top dead center? there are no markings on the front pto clutch like it says in the manual.

It also has carb issuses..but i'll deal with that after i can get it timed.

Thanks, Dan

There are 2 timing marks, one on the front of engine and one on the back. The front is not on the clutch it is farther back on the engine.

As far as #1 cylinder I think it is the left but I could be wrong.

If you are using a traditional Xenon timing light on the spark plug wire(s) it does not matter which cylinder you're connected to. Both cylinders get spark at the same time with this coil/ignition design.

Think mine only had two marks, no TDC and other markings like an old car...

The box slides to adjust the timing, make sure there is no oil in the timing box. If you have carb issues, might want to look into that. The mechanical fuel pumps fail, and while rebuildable many of us replace them with electronic pumps.

manuals are available online with a little looking.
