emt892 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I have a 1974 Homelite T16 tractor I think Im going to replace the motor. Is there a really good place to buy a COMPLETE motor for this tractor??
Chris727 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 IMO, You would be better off rebuilding the original engine. There is no source for a "new" direct replacement as Briggs stopped making these engines over a decade ago. Any new engine will require changes to wiring, exhaust, and possibly other changes. If I were going to a "new" engine I would look at a larger 18-25hp V-twin or you likely won't be satisfied with the power.
Brettw Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Jeff, Check the classifieds here for starters. There is a 16 horse Briggs for sale in PA. Craigs and e-bay next. If you have a Briggs in the T-16 (which I believe is the correct original engine), you have all the parts to make most of the 12/14/16 horse Briggs engines "complete". Good Luck!
Scouter16 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 It makes a slight difference when it comes to the power plant portion of the tractor if it was simplicity or allis built as they both used the cast iron 16hp briggs. I would go to small engine warehouse or jims tractors and spec out a Briggs that would fit a 3416 simplicity very close to both makes as far a chassis set up. They had some differences but with minor fab work you would have a great engine that will last a long time, and your tractor will be a new work horse again. The only problem is your looking at about $1400 for the kit.
