Cone clutch

Is it normal for the cone clutch to be just about too hot to touch after mowing? Also when the blades are disengaged I can hear a squeal once and a while coming from the clutch and when I release the belt tension it quits. I just started using the tractor so I'll give it some time to see if it quits but I'm thinking maybe the bearing is bad inside the cone clutch?

The cone clutch should not be too hot to touch. Sounds like you may need to check out the engagement. The clutch lining may be about gone. You shouldn't hear any squealing through the clutch while it is engaged.
