Hey Guys,

I just picked up a homesteader 8 but the owner switched out engines and never finished the project. So now I have a tractor with engine and no drive pulleys for the deck or transmission. Could someone measure theirs so I can get the right size?

Thanks,

William

You may be waiting for a reply for a while. I do not own a homesteader and few on this forum do. The small frame tractors are less popular compared to their large frame brothers, at least on this forum.

I'm not saying that the homesteader isn't good. Just the opposite, I've owned a yeoman and currently have a Broadmoor. I actually prefer the small frames for mowing grass.

Good luck with your tractor. Someone should come by to help you out.

The Homesteader was a Broadmoor series with new decals. 707, 728 and 730 were basically all the same.

lol Thanks, Tacey.

I have the same feelings as you do. I have about 5 large frame Allis's but also 10 small frames I play with. I use my B-207 to mow my lawn and pick it over my 716H.

Do you have a parts manual william? If not, they are available online. The manual will show what is missing and will give you the part numbers. The parts may still be available from simplicity.

Ha ha william! Fifteen tractors? I need 12 more to catch up to you. I will show this post to my wife to illustrate just how "tractor deprived" I am! :)

1971, 1972, 1973, 1974 1600264 Homesteader 8I think the Homesteader 8 would be the same as a 5008 Also. They were new about the same time, and Simplicity did not change much other than cosmetics from brand to brand.

William:

If you have 10 small frames, Any of the early 70's Broadmoors should have the answer you are looking for. They are basically the same tractor as the Homesteader.

I thought they would be all the same, but Simplicity has made small changes to each model. There are 2 styles of the homesteader. One is based off the B-207 era frames and the other is the newer style Simplicity. Also the other problem is that most of them come with no engine or the wrong engine with no pulleys. I will get some pictures and while I'm in the shop today.

Also I was up to about 20-25 A/C tractors at one point and was a member of this club about 10 years ago. I had a student last year that showed a lot of interest in the old tractors I had at my shop, so I ended up hiring him to "Play" in the shop with me. Turns out he got me fired up into playing with the tractors a lot more then I have in the past 10 years.

Check out the "Big Bad B-207 in the gallery on the site. That's me at he Paris Historical Expo in the early 2000's. Funny thing is now I am the chair of that show! You never know where life is going to take you.

William - Do you now have the measurements you need?

If that Homesteader is indeed like a 5008 Broadmoor, then

the lower pulley for the mower deck is the same as the mower deck

pulley on the older broadmoors (thru 717). On those early Broadmoors, the 2 pulleys were the same size.

On the later Broadmoors, the transmission drive pulley was smaller

in diameter. If you still need the measurement, let me know!
