My yellow haul!

Thanks to Smilensam, I had the chance to get in on this deal down near Peoria Ill about 220 miles one way from my home. The Craigslist ad was listed in Iowa and Ill. I just happen to see Sam's note for somebody to get on this deal ASAP so I thought I would give it a shot! The ad was already up for 3 hours when I 1st emailed my message of "I have cash and trailer and will pick up when you tell me at your asking price". I figured my offer was a waste of time and forgot about it until I received a message from the seller asking "Where did I live" because of the strange area code. I explained to him via email that I was a willing buyer and NOT a scammer and that I would take the drive out whenever he told me. I could NOT get the seller to give me a phone number. The seller explained that I was the third person in line and that he was surprised that he had three people interested already. I proceeded to almost badger the poor guy while trying to explain to him WHY I was the best person to own his tractors. The seller emailed me and told me that he had bought the B10 tractor NEW in 1967 and that his father in law had purchased the b12 NEW in 67 also. The B12 was put away in 1973 after the owner had passed and the seller inherited the tractor in 1974. The sellers b10 rear differential gears failed so he decided to pull the gears out of the b12 and put them into his b10. At that time he also pulled the engine out of the b12 and placed the engine in his basement where it sat since 1975 until this year when it was re installed. The deal came with a tiller and mule drive, complete sickle bar mower with extra set of blades, rear mounted vac motor (No cart) Dozer blade 42" snowblower, 2 sets of chains 2 mower decks, and the B10 and B12 tractors. The only tractor running at present is the B10 beacuse the B12 engine was not hooked back up after re install. I also have the FULL history and paperwork on both tractors. I was told on Sunday a.m. by the seller that by that time he had 29 offers to buy at his asking price with several people willing to drive long distances and pay MORE then his asking price, to buy his tractors. I explained to him that I had no interest in getting into a bidding war on this package and to go ahead and sell the package to someone else. 10 min later I get an Email from the seller telling me that after reading over the 15 emails I had sent him explaining why he should sell them to me....that his wife told him I was the best person to sell to. ^Long story short (LOL) seller asked me at 230pm on Sunday if I could pick them up today? I told himcensored1.gifyes!! and grabbed some cash, hooked up my trailer...gased up my truck...entered sellers address in my GPS and away I went on a 3.5 hr drive to Peoria Ill. I was back home at 11:15pm exhausted but happy all the same! :DSorry about the long winded story. The seller turned out to be a GREAT guy with a very interesting family history. I hope to remain friends with him for a long time!

So, can we ask the final price? Great story, you must have had some great pickup lines when you were younger!^

Wayne

The trailer is not a side loader. I just slid the tractors around to make them fit.

Regarding the price...Guy was asking 675.OO for everything.

Thanks guys!

Chris, I already have a real nice original B10 and am undecided on what I am going to do with the B12. I do have another member who lives in my state whom I promised 1st look at the 12 if I decide to sell. Right now I just want to work at getting that tractor up and running. I am planning on selling off some of the extras.

Looks like a nice pair of machines dOd Awesome buy

I love the B12 seats too. Makes them easy to spot from a distance. They look like keepers to me [but thats my problem...they all do]

Just a little update

Today I started to figure out what the status on the B12 really is. I was told by the seller that the B12 was retired in 1974 when his father inlaw had died. The rear end gears were removed from the B12 and used in the B10. The engine from the b12 was stored in the basement after the seller said that the engine would not spin a complete cycle without hitting something.

I pulled the head off of the engine and found the exhaust valve stuck open. After a little PB blaster the valve slipped back into position and worked perfect. I cleaned the face of the valve and seat and reinstalled the cylinder head.

After a shot of starter fluid, the engine fired off and ran good.

One issue I have is the S/G belt is worn and does not run in the pulley groove without the belt flipping and jumpimg the grooves. I need to replace the belt and need to know the size of this belt and if I need to pull the engine to replace the belt?

One other question I have is the B10 rear portion of the tractor the same as the b12. I may just swap out the complete rear portion if they are interchangeable? I happen to have an extra b10 rear end but it is in a good running tractor.

I think the gear boxes and trannys are the same .

Posted

They are the same rear end and BGB. You can disconnect the driveshaft from engine and replace the belt without pulling the engine.

There is enough play in the drive shaft? It seems to be a tight fit in there.

Thanks Ray!

Any idea on replacement belt size...I found nothing in the owners manual.

Your the "MAN" Dan

Thanks!

Ray was correct as usual ..I did get the belt on without pulling the motor. It was a little tricky getting the drive shaft back on but alot easier then pulling an engine.
