5000 watt generator drive pulley

Couldn't find the topic I started last fall on this, so heres another..

Last time I assumed the drive pulley on the generator should be the same size as the cone clutch on the tractor, which is 5".

Tody I tested the unit for the first time and winding the tractor up to 3600 rpm the output on the duplex outlets is approx. 109 volts ac. More rpms brings it up higher. Supposed to be shooting for 120. So I assume I need to up the pulley size just slightly. 5.5" ?? or 6" ??

What do you all think who know a thing or two about this?

I don't have the larger size, so I will have to go out and expend funds to get pulleys. Would rather have info as to the right size so as not to needlessly throw money away from the tractor fund:)

Wouldn't you want to reduce the size of the driven pulley on the generator?

Sam, I've got my generator stored under the bench. I'll get a diameter to you soon as I can. Also, if you have a tiny tach or something similar, it may not hurt to determine, if in fact the engine is turning 3600 rpm's.

Your old post. ;)http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=132558&SearchTerms=generatorAfter that discussion, I would stick with 5" and bump up your governor, if you are going to work it.If it's just for show, anything smaller. 4 1/2" might work okay for you too.

id="quote">Looks like 5" is factory according to the input there. Going to plug some power tools to it tomorrow after I adjust the engine a little and try em out.I just want the thing to be oem if I should sell it, so a 5; pulley and a new gauge would do that.

You also need to think about the generator output frequency, 60 Hz. If it is a two pole generator, it needs to turn at 3600 RPM to get 60HZ. You can use an old synchronous motor clock to see if it keeps time.

There may be an adjustment to the field current to adjust the output voltage.
