I have a AC B10 and I am trying to find the year. can you help me. The serial no. is 028973

First, the serial number of the tractor is not of much value -- we need the Manufacturer Number (Mfr No) for Simplicity or Product Number for Allis-Chalmers. They didn't use model years, nor record the serial numbers produced when, as far as we know. For example, Big Tens were made in both 1965 and 1966 with the same MFR No. You might get a general idea by looking in the registry for B-10s whose serial number is close to you. Also, try searching using the "Search All Messages" function on the top of the list, finding "year" in the Message Body. For example, Jack Lindstrom (happyjack) has described where to find the dates on the transmission/rearend of when it was made, as has Martin Hruby (MPH). Third, the engine MAY be an indicator, if it is the original engine. Note that the date of the engine may pre-date the manufacture date of the tractor by several months, as they used up inventory of engines on hand. Again, there's several posts that talk about dating the Briggs engine. Take the last string of 7 numbers, such as 6904271. The first six numbers in that string is the date the engine was made in YYMMDD format -- in this example it's April 27, '69... Finally, B-10s were produced twice -- in 1963/64 with a 9HP model 23D Briggs engine and in 1966/67 with a 10 HP model 243431 Briggs engine. They have different decals also, plus the later ones have a "Bumblebee" on the side and a B-10 emblem in the grille.... Sorry I can't be more definitive...
