This is on a Kubota, but I thought it was interesting, and a neat idea. You can get that winch for about $50 at Harbor Freight. Don't think my two Homelties have enough extra juice to run it though.

Bob,

I got a 1 ton "Badland" winch from HFT on sale @ $29 that required a

$14 mounting plate, which had the rollers to protect the cable. Plan is to mount it off the 42" dozer blade, so I have a form of a forward outrigger,

or worse case, I'll chain the 4212G to a tree. If a single battery won't do then I can always do two in parallel. It all depends on the alternator, and regulator keeping up with the intermittent duty cycle of the winch. I'll topic my results. I do want to get the AGs on first, since I have several ash trees down and destined to be cut for this winters firewood. I want to get the trunks before they deteriorate.

Cheers, and have a GR8 Holiday to All!

imo there's nothing worse than a winch plow, I'll take hydraulics anyday

I'm sure we all would prefer hydraulics, if we could afford it.

I must say, that whole plow bracket/lift/winch setup, looks to be kind of a hodge podge, Rube Goldberg setup. I am not familiar with the Kubota's, but that just appears to be awkward. I guess if it works, don't knock it, but it certainly looks strange.

My Brother-in-Law has a Polaris Ranger with a front plow blade. Standard set-up for these is a cable winch for lift.

Can't imagine trying to plow with the blade stuck out so far in front of the steering axle. I would rather a hand lift and the blade pivot point at least a foot closer to the axle. That setup just screams "AWKWARD" If you want power lift by way of a winch it should be mounted behind the driver with the lift cable running under a pulley or two to a lift arm on the plow mount. Keep your setup compact and usable. Just my nickle's worth.(we don't use pennies in Canada any more).....Dave

Nothing wrong with using a winch. They do work better using a flat strap as opposed to cable.Couple pics of my Kubota setup.Power angle V is the cat's meow.

I concur on the strap, to me electric winches are too slow

I've seen the strap with winch used on newer full-sized pick-up truck type plows. I think it is used to turn the plow too somehow.

rfsmith1952 - Did you buy anything good there at Derflers? I was there and seen that set up. Really strange but if it works that's what matters. I didn't stick around to see what they sold the tractors for. I was hoping for an Allis Chalmers 312H for parts. I have one good one now with a bunch of attachments.

No, Andy I wasn't at the auction itself. I went out Friday and Sunday to have a look. I didn't see anything I wanted (although I want everything) so I didn't go this year. Last year he had an excellent 46 or 48 in Simplicity snowplow, with the trip springs and shoes. It was bundled with an old Sears tractor. Both went for $60 total. I didn't recognize it, but the club guys did. These guys are good, don't be afraid to ask them anything, and pictures are most helpful too.

Maybe see you at the Red Lion...
