ss74nova Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 1966 Simplicity LL 101 First time tilling gardenSorry page may take a while to load, lots of pics. This is the 32" 990392 tiller & mule drive I bought back in late Febuary from Chris AKA "Bowhuntforlife" Thanks Chris! I bought the tiller, mule drive, & a mid mount 990237 grader blade all for $350 and it only cost $80 to ship from Wisconsin to eastern PA through Fastenal. I recommend Fastenal, great shipping prices & it only took less than a week to receive it. Nice looking tiller & everything seemed tight bearing wise, just had to buy belts & replace the idler on the mule drive, buy a pulley for the BGB, & found a NOS pulley to go on the tiller. The old one would have worked but where the belt rides was crimped in one spot but I could have simply fixed it with a hammer but I saw a NOS on ebay so now I have a spare. My wife's dog "Woodstock" wanted to help with the tilling but he doesn't think I'm doing it right. He barked orders at me the whole time & even tried biting the front tire of the tractor. When he tried to go after the tiller with the tines spinning we had to put him inside. I wish I had a float position on the lift lever, had to keep the button pushed down when tilling & my thumb got tired & arm got jerked back & forth. The first time I didn't & after a couple passes when the dirt got lower the lift lever went down all the way & locked down when I was at the end of the garden & didn't want to stop tilling untill it embedded itself in the ground after the garden.:I I couldn't lift the tiller because it was stuck in the ground. Had to shut the tiller off & put the tractor in reverse to get it out of the ground after the tines had locked themselves in the earth that was not part of my garden. Sorry I was to to show that video & erased it as soon as possible. I tried tilling with a 8" drive pulley on the tractor but it seemed a little too fast in 1st gear, so I put on my 10" pulley & that worked a lot better. I ran the tractor at about half throttle or a little less, thanks to reading posts on this site I know not to till to fast or run at full throttle. My garden isn't big only 8' wide X 16' long, but the tiller worked great! What a beautiful day for tilling!:)Enjoy,Tim
rokon2813 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Nice There should be a series of holes in your lift lever quadrant. Put a bolt or pin in the last hole and the handle will not be able to lock. That is your "float".
ss74nova Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 Thanks guys! I'll try the bolt in the lift lever hole too.
