mudpatrol1 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 i am in the process of installing a kohler 16 hp high output in a regency, and instead of the coil just having a 1 wire kill, there are 3 wires, plus a ground it seems. 2 of the wires run to a box mounted on the fan housing. it appears they are powered for the coil to fire, just like a car??? if it helps, the 16 came out of a broadmore that rotted in 2 pieces.
Ronald Hribar Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Can you take wiring harness out of donor machine
mudpatrol1 Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 i already thought about that,it doesnt match up to the regency. it had a 15 horse briggs originally which was missing upon my purchase.
mudpatrol1 Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 i believe it has something to do with the timing on the high output engines, perhaps if i can find a broadmore wiring diagram it would help. i have made plenty of wiring harness,s over the years for race cars and trucks,so this will be cake....LOL:D
BLT Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 1692416 is a Broadmoor using 14HP Kohler. Maybe you can get a wire diagram for it.
mudpatrol1 Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 thanks bob,i found a number for a 16 hp broadmoore. i still have the dash and wiring from it as well. going to try and use the wiring from the 4 pin engine connector back. think i am also going to install the hourmeter from it as well. its a tight fit,but its mounted to the frame tonight at least
BLT Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 The black box you refer to is the voltage regulator , two wires of the same color connect to outside terminals , one wire runs to engine harness and I think a green wire is the bonding wire for the regulator ground.
mudpatrol1 Posted June 14, 2014 Author Posted June 14, 2014 this is not a voltage rectifier, the wires go to the ignition coil. i did get spark by powering one of the red wires, that leaves one more wire to figure out. because it is a high output, this adjusts timing from what i understand
mudpatrol1 Posted June 14, 2014 Author Posted June 14, 2014 thanks again bob,i will look into that tommorow
mudpatrol1 Posted June 15, 2014 Author Posted June 15, 2014 as of today i rewired the kohler 16 to were the briggs 15 was. i used the engine wiring harness and part of the broadmoore dash harness and factory connectors. soldered and heat shrinked all connections, mounted the broadmoore hour meter in one of the knockouts for switches on the regent.thank you all for the replies.Roger
