Vinnie_A 3 Posted January 7, 2002 Some how I for got to add stabil to my Simplicity snow blower last fall. I guess I was too busy restoring my B10 that was sitting along side of it in the garage. The gas tank smells like varnish. I drained that and added new gas but still no luck. It will start when I give it a shot of ether but then dies out. Do I have to remove the carb.and if so how do I remove what I think is a varnish deposit? Thank you in advance, Vinnie
SmilinSam 4,243 Posted January 7, 2002 Most of the time from my experience is that the float valve sticks to the seat preventing the gas from going on through. I have (against recommendations) rapped the throttle body lightly with a plastic mallet and got them loose and running again. I only have a 25% succes rate at that. Of course if you hit too hard or in the wrong place thats the end of the carb. Otherwise removal and cleaning with carb solvent is in order along with a new float valve. SmilinSam 4,243 Posted January 7, 2002 Use some spray carb cleaner. You could even try removing the fuel hose and needle screws and blowing out the passages. Take it easy with the ether, that can do more damage than a plastic mallet.
Ron_B 0 Posted January 7, 2002 Hi Vinnie I had the same thing happen last year to my mower.I used carb cleaner, and gunk. that i got from napa.I ended up takeing carb, off and soaking it for two days.I did the same to the tank, sprayed inside and let it sit.Reset everything, cleaned lines. And the way we go.Have fun.---Ron B
