725 info

I just picked this MW Garden Mark Squire garden tractor. I do believe it is a 725 model around 1962. The tag is still under the seat but I cant make anything out. It is a runner and drives but needs a little bit of work.

Looking for any info on these tractors and maybe a good place to get parts for them. I know they were made by simplicity so correct me if im wrong but the parts should be interchangeable from simplicity 725 and this MW model?

I know for sure the generator/starter is not correct the way it is set up and is one of the first things I want to correct along with needing a battery? What kind of battery do I need?

Is the 9hp models similar to these? There is a guy local to me that is selling a 9hp and i was thinking about picking it up for some engine parts if they are interchangeable (i.e. carburetor, air filter,starter/generator).

Thanks in advance for any advice/info

First, Welcome to the club!!

Yes, the 725 and MW are the same tractor, about everything will swap there.

As for the 9 hp, not much is going to swap. As far as the tractor itself is concerned, most of the sheet metal is different and mounts different. The frame is different, the gear box and transmission will swap, but the trans is slightly different, the axle tube is shorter on the older ones.

As far as the engines, the 7 1/4 hp (model 19) is physically smaller than the 9 hp (model 23) so not much will swap there either.

The starter generator mounts are different, I (can't remember) think the starter itself is shorter on the 19. Also not positive, but I think the intake manifold and carb are smaller diameter too, but might only be the manifold

I would not recommend a 9 hp as parts for a 7 hp, as complete tractors, you won't be able to use much. If you just get the 9 hp engine, you can probably make do with the carb air cleaner and starter, though they might not be "correct" for your tractor.

As for where to find info and parts, you are in the right place. About all the info you could want is here somewhere, just search for it and or ask.

As for parts, we have a classifieds section, and some of the members sell parts (including me) here and on ebay.

EDIT: Oh yeah, BTW the Allis Chalmers B1 is pretty much the same tractor too (different hood, grill and seat)

ok thanks for the info. I was just thinking like small block chevys. Different hp but same basic motor. Do you know a battery number that i could look for that will work?
